Academic Life

Academic Life at Priory School

The pupils have secured incredibly well-deserved results after two years of relentless endeavour, care for one another and pride in our school family. A strong focus on pastoral care and wellbeing have allowed pupils to be authentic, take risks, and push curricular and co-curricular boundaries in a safe and supportive environment. Their grades are marvellous, and we look forward to even more success as our pupils move into higher education or the workplace.”

Priory School has consistently demonstrated strong academic performance. From 2019 to 2024, the school achieved a 100% pass rate in both GCSEs and A Levels.

Inspections

The school’s commitment to academic excellence is further reflected in its inspection outcomes. In May 2018, Ofsted rated the school as ‘Good’ with ‘Outstanding’ features. Subsequently, in 2023, the Independent Schools Inspectorate deemed the school fully compliant in all areas, the highest accolade possible.

Other Achievements

Priory School staff and pupils are not restricted by the parameters of the formal curriculum, and many pupils enjoy experiences and successes in broader curricular and co-curricular pursuits.

The school competes in a wide range of academic competitions and festivals, and pupils regularly return to school with trophies, medals and commendations. Examples include Science Olympiads, STEM events, mock legal trial, debating and even First Lego League.

Each year the school appoints a Poet Laureate and Junior Poet Laureate, and both write poems throughout the course of the year for major events in our calendar. Pupils are encouraged to develop their leadership skills and pupil led activities are commonplace, for example, the Eco Club and School Council. Those studying GCSE PE learn to coach sport in PE and Games lessons under the watchful eye of Sports Department staff.

GCSE Public Examination Results in the Post-Covid Era

Results Day is a cause for great celebration at Priory School when pupils and staff are rewarded for their hard work, resilience and ambition.

Whilst our results are among the very best on the Island, we are also very proud of the ‘soft skills’ our pupils develop and take into the adult world beyond our school gates. Leadership, teamwork, communication, empathy and a strong moral compass are all honed on the journey through the Junior and Senior sections of the school. We emphasise the importance of being upstanders and not bystanders, as well as the value of having a growth mindset, and we are all immensely proud of the principled and courageous young adults that leave our school and become Old Priorians.

Pupils, Prefects and Form Groups are encouraged to lead assemblies, and recent examples include ‘love’, ‘sustainable energy sources’ and the ‘Iceland Trip’. Prefects meet with members of the School Leadership Team on a weekly basis and contribute to the continuous improvement of the school with their feedback, ideas and hard work.

There are many, many more examples of academic enrichment, pupil leadership and pupil voice, and Priory School places great importance on this aspect of pupils’ personal development.
