Pastoral Care & Wellbeing

Priory School of Our Lady of Walsingham is dedicated to providing a nurturing environment that fosters both academic excellence and personal growth, ensuring that each pupil receives comprehensive pastoral care throughout their educational journey.

Pastoral Care at Priory School

Introduction

From the moment pupils arrive at Priory School, the institution supports not only their academic needs but also guides them regarding important social, moral, cultural, and ethical aspects of life. The school promotes self-confidence, self-motivation, self-discipline, and self-esteem, encouraging pupils to strive for success in their chosen fields.

A strong focus on pastoral care and wellbeing have allowed pupils to be authentic, take risks, and push curricular and co-curricular boundaries in a safe and supportive environment. Their grades are marvellous, and we look forward to even more success as our pupils move into higher education or the workplace.”

Wellbeing

We are committed to fostering a family atmosphere where pupils feel safe, secure, and able to thrive in all areas of school life, both curricular and co-curricular. Emphasising values of kindness and respect, the school focuses on the development of each individual pupil, facilitated by small class sizes that allow for personalised and flexible pastoral care.

The school ensures that pupils are appropriately and sufficiently supervised before, after, and during the school day, especially in early years. The school employs a dedicated team to maintain the appropriate supervision levels, as confirmed in a recent inspection report.

Academically, the school encourages pupils to give their best in all subjects, promoting a sense of personal achievement and self-discipline. The curriculum is designed to develop the talents and skills of pupils, whether their inclinations are academic or more practical in nature.

The Priory School also implements a comprehensive Spiritual, Moral, Social, and Cultural (SMSC) development programme. This programme encourages pupils to respect different faiths, feelings, and values; to think about themselves, others, and the world around them; and to use their imagination and creativity. It also promotes the use of a range of social skills in various contexts and teaches ‘Fundamental British Values’.

The Role of Tutors

At the Priory School of Our Lady of Walsingham, tutors play a pivotal role in both the academic and pastoral development of pupils. They are responsible for delivering subject-specific instruction, guiding pupils through their educational journey, and fostering a supportive learning environment. Tutors also contribute to the school’s extracurricular activities, enhancing the holistic development of pupils.

Assemblies

Priory School integrates assemblies into its weekly schedule to foster community and spiritual growth. The school day begins with morning registration at 8:30 am, followed by lessons starting at 8:40 am. At 11:40 am, various activities occur throughout the week, including a whole school assembly, ‘Tuesday Talks‘, and a designated silent reading session.

Assemblies are a significant aspect of the school’s routine, reflecting its Christian ethos. For instance, the school has observed events such as the feast day of its patron, Our Lady of Walsingham, with special assemblies. Additionally, the school holds services for occasions like Remembrance Day and Christmas, often inviting the school community to participate.
