Our Tuesday Talk Programme is innovative, enjoyable and hugely valuable to wider learning and careers education.
Members of our school, Island, national and international communities are invited to share their passion and/or occupation with pupils, and recent talks have included video game art; the Island Games; maritime archaeology; satellite GIS and its use in managing natural hazards, disasters and climate change; self-build properties; ability dogs for young people; midwifery and many more.
Guests address the pupil body in a formal setting and then host a question-and-answer session. Pupil interest and engagement is excellent, and boys and girls often cite the talks as one of the highlights of the curriculum.
Interacting with speakers also promotes and develops listening, public speaking and debating skills, and helps boost confidence and self-esteem.
Parents of our pupils, past and present, are regularly encouraged to contribute to the programme, and a list of recent talks can be found below.
