Coronation Scholarships

Priory School is pleased to offer Coronation Scholarships from entry points at Key Stage 2 (Year 3) and above. Scholarships are offered in the curricular and co-curricular life of the school and on a means tested basis. In order to qualify, families must demonstrate financial need and pupil ability.

Coronation Scholarships at Priory School

Aims

The aims of the programme are to recognise exceptional ability, to widen accessibility to a Priory School education, to provide opportunities for scholars to be active participants in the curricular and co-curricular life of the school, and to share their skills with others.

Award

Scholars will receive fee remission at the discretion of the Principal, and monitoring and support from the Head of Junior School or Head of the Senior School. In return, scholars are expected to be ambassadors and role models for the school, to demonstrate high levels of effort and attainment, to actively contribute to the wider life of Priory School, and to consistently display and develop their academic and co-curricular passion.

Requirements

Applicants should have high levels of general academic and wider potential, demonstrate intellectual curiosity, have the resources and drive to learn independently, and have a passion for academic and skills-based learning.

Guidance and Advice

Before applying, families should be aware of the high level of demand for scholarships and the likelihood of disappointment. Funds are limited and demand invariably outstrips supply.

Applicants should contact the School Office in the first instance, and the process begins with a meeting with the Principal to explore next steps. Should the application proceed, evidence of ability and financial need is required; the application cannot proceed without both, and a home visit may be required.

The process involves a series of interviews and taster days at the school, and these are designed to test thinking and practical skills, a general passion for learning and leadership potential.

The awarding of scholarships is at the discretion of the Principal. This includes the number of scholarships offered and their respective size. Please note that scholarships are reviewed annually, and although we expect them to continue during the pupil’s time at the school, they can be removed for failing to meet the expectations of a Priory School scholar, or if a family’s financial situation improves significantly. Scholarships awarded to pupils in the Junior School are only guaranteed until the end of their time in the Junior School, namely the end of Year 6. However, families may, in most cases, confidently reapply for a Senior School scholarship at this juncture.
