S4 & S5 recently had the exciting opportunity to visit Wimbledon, where they explored ‘The Business of Wimbledon’. The trip examined the rich history of this prestigious event and highlighted the delicate balance between preserving tradition and embracing innovation. Wimbledon’s core values were also discussed, such as “if you want to go fast, go it alone; if you want to go far, do it as a team”.
The pupils gained valuable insights into the business side of Wimbledon, learning about the organisational structure, what it takes to run the iconic two-week tournament, and how the event generates revenue. Sustainability was a key focus too, with pupils hearing about Wimbledon’s ambitious targets for 2030 and beyond.
For me, Wimbledon is such a special tournament. I feel at home when I play there, and the grass is perfect.
An interactive element allowed everyone to provide feedback directly to Wimbledon staff, sharing thoughts on what the organisation does well and suggesting possible improvements. To round off the day, staff and pupils enjoyed a guided tour of the famous grounds, including Centre Court, the Media Centre, and the Wimbledon Museum.
